Lost Dawns: Storm Skies Over Na h-Eileanan Samhraidh

Acrylic on canvas (2025)

This expressive, semi-abstract acrylic painting recalls a moment at sea during fieldwork in the Summer Isles, collecting rare algae for conservation genetics. As light broke through shifting clouds, I was struck by the fleeting, savage beauty of the scene. My art practice, informed by my work as a research scientist, explores human relationships with nature—its power to heal, its capacity for destruction, and the devastation we have inflicted upon it. This painting captures a sense of loss—of time, memory, and the irreplaceable landscapes we stand to lose through climate change.
