‘Future Oceans’
Mixed Media (oil pastel, Acrylic paint, acrylic ink, marker pen and sand). 2025.
This mixed-media painting (acrylic paint, ink, marker, sand and oil pastel) combines structured geometric forms with expressive, gestural mark-making to explore themes of habitat fragmentation and ecological fragility. Layers of textured paint and dynamic ink splashes disrupt the rigid shapes, symbolizing nature’s resistance against human-imposed boundaries. The composition balances control and chaos—precisely defined structures contrast with fluid, unpredictable movement, reflecting the tension between order and destruction in the natural world.
Muted seascapes emerge through the layers, their subdued tones evoking fading landscapes and lost ecosystems. In stark contrast, bold red ink bleeds beyond the shapes, an urgent symbol of loss, transformation, and the irreparable consequences of climate change. This interplay of form and fluidity invites viewers to reflect on nature’s resilience in the face of rising seas and human impact, while also questioning our own role in the planet’s uncertain future.
