‘Chlorochrome_1’

Mixed media on hot pressed 300gsm watercolour paper (2025).

This abstract expressive painting features rich, layered textures created with oil pastel, thick acrylic impasto applied using a palette knife, large brushes, and a circular tool. Dynamic washes of acrylic ink and expressive pen marks add depth and movement. Paint is built up in layers, revealing and obscuring forms beneath, creating a sense of hidden or half-seen shapes emerging from the surface.

The color palette—yellow ochre, dark green, titanium white, and lamp black—is inspired by the DNA extraction process from aquatic plant leaves. This process, which breaks down cell structures and releases chlorophyll pigments, creates striking natural hues. The painting reflects this transformation—an interplay of breaking down and rebuilding, chaos and order.
